IOTA presents a biometric authentication system based on the Tangle

The IOTA Foundation has presented a new Proof-of-Concept for a biometric authentication system, which is based on the Open-Source-Tangle technology from IOTA. The project with the name “IAMPASS” allows the palm of a Person as a means of Identification to use, and is another milestone for the rapidly evolving IOTA-Ecosystem and part of the Smart City Initiative.

The IAMPASS technology scans the Vein pattern of the Hand of a Person, in order to create a unique, verifiable identity, without the use of personal raw data. This allows companies to create Audit Trails for access to highly secure environments or facilities. As you can see in the following Demo, could for example be the closet server with the IAMPASS technology secured.

For companies the solution is intended to provide a rapid and decentralised solution for an authentification system, which is an effective way of managing and securing a growing user volumes of data from connected digital devices. From the point of view of the user, the solution offers considerable advantages in relation to the privacy and security of their own data, since the IAMPASS Software identity and access rights without use of managed personal raw data, which is made possible by the use of zero-knowledge proof-of-concepts. In addition, the System should also bring significant cost savings to companies over traditional authentication system.

Possible areas of application for the IAMPASS technology could be of high security environments such as data centers, airports, and stadiums. On the other hand are easy access points for buildings, cars, or Smartphones can be secured. It is conceivable, for example, a combination with the charging station of electric cars, the ElaadNL was developed to the Store and Pay for it with IOTA , fully automatically.

Dominick Schiener, co-founder of IOTA explained the importance of the biometric authentication system:

Identity is one of the greatest unsolved problems to verify because of the inability to identify easily, and to authenticate, leading to considerable friction losses to the user and the service provider in the world. Therefore, we are excited about the IAMPASS Proof-of-Concept that uses the Distributed Ledger of IOTA, to make the identity not only portable, but also enable users to access and ownership of your own data. With the maturation of identity solutions, we will see that the IOTA-Ecosystem is an important technical piece of the puzzle for the introduction of distributed ledgers.

According to the Roadmap on the IAMPASS website to the solution in 3. Quarter in 2019 will be integrated in productive customer environments. Previously, in the 1. or 2. Quarter of 2019 to the production status for IOTA, as well as the Launch of Qubic .
